Many times when you hire the services of an internet marketing agency, wether it’s for PPC, SEO, SEM, or Social media management, the agency or consultant request you give them access to Google analytics, which is a reasonable request.

However, when you end your engagement with the consultant or employee, I would venture to say that almost every one forgets to remove this access. It’s could potentially be a HUGE issue, but it’s nice to know they no longer have access to sensitive data that they might use to get a job with a competitor or to setup shop to compete with you directly.

It only take a 30 seconds to remove access so get it done.

Go to your Google analytics account.

Click on user manager.

Find the user you want to remove and click delete.

You’re all done!

So I was recently on an exotic car rental directory I work on for a client and I found a link to this domain www.jaguardealer.com and this is what I found as a “website”:

As you can tell this is doing Jaguar who owns the domain no good. So what are they missing out on you ask?

2,910 sites that mention and link to them!

With the $94.5 million ad budget Jaguar spends yearly, you would think they’d take advantage of the 100% free advertising these 2,910 websites are giving them.

But nope, they let go of the free advertising instead and prefer to spend almost $95 million. Let’s see if the new owners at Tata Group get their act together and start using the web to sell more jaguars. After all, what more targeted lead could you ask for than someone searching for a “JAGUAR DEALER”.

Have you seen any domains go to waste?

Getting a product or service reviewed is tricky and the first thing that you need to note is that no one will automatically want to review it – you will need to give them good reason to!

Customers usually fall into two categories:

People who don’t like your product/service or don’t like to do reviews

People who don’t know how to do a review

Most customers won’t be looking to find you unless you own a well established brand that sells a must-have product. This means that unless you are McDonalds selling Big Macs – getting people to say things about what you offer will take effort. Reviews are hugely important to businesses as a company that has “0 Customer Reviews” to offer will always wave a red flag to new customers. Make people want to review your products, make your customers feel it necessary to shout about your service and above all – realize that this will only happen if you encourage them to do so!

There are a few ways that you can entice customers to review your product/service and here are the top 15:

1. Just Ask!

When you eat at a restaurant, you expect the waiter to ask you how your meal is and if they don’t – you wouldn’t be impressed with the level of service. So, why don’t other sectors employ this tactic?

Use the same principle with your brand and encourage your customers to tell you what they thought of your product/service by asking them outright. Simple yet effective…

2. Boost Sales with Reviews

Promote reviews as a benefit to your customers by giving them the opportunity to gain something from it. When they review a product, recommend a similar product to them so it is helpful for you and for them.

3. Use Email Follow-Ups

Whether your company is based on or offline you should always gather your customers email addresses. You can encourage customers to part with their contact details by offering them something in return like Hotel Chocolat who offer a free bar of chocolate for every customer who sends them their email address. It’s amazing what people will do for free chocolate!

Then use these emails to make contact with your customers after they make a purchase to get their feedback.

4. Create Graphs

Use the data you get from your customers and place it into a graph so that you can review your customer’s data quickly and easily. This will allow you to access their reviews, their thoughts, their contact details and information about what they purchased helping you to see who said what about which products/services.

5. Compare your Reviews

Use an email poll to gather customer feedback and then create a chart that compares your feedback to your rivals in order to see how you fare in the competition wars.

6. Promote a Review Section on your Website

Unique content is the key to gaining higher SERPs making this advice important to any website focusing on SEO! Create a “Review” section on your website so that customers can leave reviews of their own free will and this should be promoted on the Homepage as an option for your customers to follow.

7. Give Away Free Stuff in Return for a Review

If you want to tempt your customers to review products, why not give some away for free? Your customers will be far more likely to want to review something that they didn’t have to pay for and they are also more likely to like your product if it was free!

8. Offer Free Samples

Head and Shoulders offer free shampoo samples to anyone who requests one and they don’t specify that you must write a review in return as they assume they will gain more reviews simply by offering more people their product. Great idea as long as you’re confident your product/service is worth a good review!

9. Provide Product Trials

Allowing your customers to test products/services for a set period before they have to buy is a good way to encourage people to enjoy using what you offer and as long as they enjoy using it – they will be more likely to review it!

10. Make Contact Simple

Customers are more likely to give bad reviews or no reviews when they are unable to get hold of you in the event of a problem, so make it easy for them to find your email address or telephone number. This allows you to sort out whatever problem they have had with your product/service without them feeling the need to do it through a bad review.

Of course, if they have something great to say ask them for permission to replicate it on your website!

11. Offer Referral Bonuses

While reviews are a great way to get other people interested in your products/services, if they actually generate a new sale you should offer a reward to the person who wrote the review that encouraged a sale. Offer a percentage off their next purchase and this will promote more people to use the review section to gain you new customers.

12. Use Review Symbols

Customers always respond to visual stimulation so when you have received a good review – tell your new customers about it! Some companies including Ciao and Qype use symbols that show site visitors when a review has been posted about a product and these symbols can be used on brochures, leaflets, emails and other marketing material as a way of highlighting a product/service with a good review.

13. Offer New Products and Services

Customers love new stuff so give it to them! Marketing is all about fresh ideas and new products so make sure you are constantly providing your customers with something new and exciting for them to try out and of course, ultimately review…

14. Respond to Negative Reviews

A negative review is never a good thing but you can turn it into a less negative thing! Respond to your negative review and you may find the customer changes their mind about the quality of service you offer or better still remove the bad review!

15. Use Top Reviewers

Some top brands like Amazon list the names and email addresses of their top reviewers and this allows you to ask people to try out your product or service and review it for you. You can also ask competitors who sell similar products to review your product but make sure you trust them to do it honestly or this one could be risky!

Ever wonder what keywords are the most expensive?

Google makes most of its revenue from online advertising. A whopping 97% of its income in the last 12 months was generated from advertising. Google made $33.3 billion during he last 12 months.

Google AdWords is a popular tool to source keywords for SEO purposes. AdWords works as an auction site that allows marketers to bid on certain keywords to get top ad placements. There is no minimum bid for CPC campaign and AdWords as many other Google tools and programs is really popular.

Search engine optimization is big business at the moment as is PPC and Google plays a huge role in how SEO is applied to websites. WordStream sells hosted software that handles a lot of the manual side of SEO and website design and recently the company decided to look into which keyword categories are the most expensive in AdWords.

The highest costs per click (CPC) on AdWords are interesting to see and the data shows the top 10,000 most expensive keywords in a 90-day period. The list shows different categories according to the theme of a website and the largest categories were determined by looking at the average cost per click for each keyword and the monthly search volume.

Check out the top 20 keywords that demanded the highest CPC:

1. Insurance (example keyword: auto insurance price quotes)
2. Loans (example keyword: consolidate graduate student loans)
3. Mortgage (example keyword: refinanced second mortgages)
4. Attorney (example keyword: personal injury attorney)
5. Credit (example keyword: home equity line of credit)
6. Lawyer
7. Donate
8. Degree
9. Hosting
10. Claim
11. Conference Call
12. Trading
13. Software
14. Recovery
15. Transfer
16. Gas/Electricity
17. Classes
18. Rehab
19. Treatment
20. Cord Blood

It will come as little surprise to many of you that the majority of the top keywords are as a result from people searching for help – help with money-related problems for example. Educational reasons as well as medical aid and to find professional services are also primary search terms.

Interestingly, the study suggests that the top keywords represent industries that are offering services that have a lifetime customer value, ensuring that companies can afford to pay a lot for the keyword to draw in new customers due to the nature of their business. i.e. even if they pay out a lot to secure high rankings for a keyword, they will make it back thanks to the product that they are selling.

When you think about it and really look through these stats, would you really have thought that Google would make $55 per click on the word “insurance”?

What do you make of the findings of this study?
